Lucknow: Barabanki police have busted a highway robbery case with the arrest of five persons and recovered the car used in the crime, ₹1,900 cash, three mobile phones, a countrymade pistol and two live cartridges, police said on Saturday.The robbery took place on July 22 when Mohammad Mustaqeem of Behta in Lucknow’s Gudamba area, was travelling on a motorcycle with his nephew to a local market.According to the complaint, four men in a black car intercepted them on the Kursi-Deva Road and robbed them of ₹2,800 cash and two mobile phones.A case was registered against three to four unidentified persons.Barabanki SP Arpit Vijayvargiya constituted a special team to crack the case.

Acting on technical surveillance and local intelligence inputs, the team arrested Shahid Raza alias Mohammad Ayan, Aqib, Sameer, Mujjamil alias Chhotu and Roman Ansari from the Likhna underpass on July 25.During a search, police recovered a countrymade pistol and two live cartridges from Aqib’s possession, following which a separate case under Section 3/25 of the Arms Act was registered against him.During questioning, the accused allegedly told police that they hired vehicles from a rental agency in Lucknow and used them to commit robberies and thefts.Police said the accused also confessed to their involvement in a theft case registered at Deva police station in Barabanki.
