Kota: A massive fire broke out in a four-storey commercial-cum-residential building near Ghore Wale Baba Circle in Kota district Saturday. While the building sustained extensive damage and large quantities of stock were destroyed, all occupants were rescued safely and no injuries or casualties were reported.Chief fire officer (CFO) Rakesh Vyas said the blaze is suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit in a shoe showroom on the ground floor at around 4.45 pm. The fire spread rapidly through the building, engulfing all four floors.“The top floor housed residential accommodation, and families, including women, escaped by jumping onto the roof of a neighbouring building before emergency teams reached the spot,” said Vyas.

Vyas said firefighting operations were hampered by heavy smoke and the large quantity of footwear stock stored on the third floor. “A hydraulic ladder was deployed to access the upper floors, while specialised firefighting units from the Kota Thermal Power Plant (KTPP) and DCM Shree Ram were pressed into service.”“It took over two hours and multiple refilling rounds by 15 fire tenders to bring the blaze under control,” he said.An investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the suspected electrical fault and assess the extent of the property damage.
