Prayagraj: Police busted an illegal slaughterhouse in Naini late Friday night following a tip-off from the VHP’s Goraksha wing, recovering cattle remains, sharp-edged weapons and an illegal firearm from a room in Kanshiram Colony in the Lokpur area.Nine people were arrested from the spot, while another accused was nabbed early Saturday after an encounter in which he sustained a bullet injury, DCP Yamunanagar Vivek Chandra Yadav said.Acting on information provided by VHP Goraksha Prant minister Lal Mani Tiwari, a joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Naini police, led by ACP Karchhana, cordoned off the area around 11.30pm and conducted a search operation.

According to VHP members, complaints had been received over the past few days regarding alleged cow slaughter and the sale of meat in Kanshiram Colony. During the search of a vacant room, police recovered cattle remains, knives, choppers, a country-made pistol and live cartridges.The VHP alleged that some persons present at the spot opened fire at the police team and attempted to flee. Police chased them and arrested nine suspects. The tenth accused was later apprehended after an encounter, police said.
