Tarn Taran/Amritsar: The Miri Piri Khalsa March, which commenced from the Akal Takht, proceeded with traditional grandeur from Gurdwara Bir Baba Budha Sahib towards its next halt at Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib, Tarn Taran, on Saturday.Before the march began, a congregation was held at Gurdwara Bir Baba Budha Sahib, where Giani Rajdeep Singh, Granthi of the Golden Temple, delivered a religious discourse. The officiating jathedar of the Akal Takht, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami also addressed the gathering.Addressing the congregation, Giani Gargaj said that the Akal Takht was the supreme temporal seat of the Sikh community, from where the Sikh Gurus taught the values of standing against oppression and upholding truth and justice.

He said the Miri Piri Khalsa March, dedicated to Miri Piri Diwas, aimed to connect the youth and the Sikh Sangat with their rich heritage while inspiring them to stay away from social evils such as drug abuse.“The Akal Takht is the eternal throne of the Guru. Forces that attempt to challenge its authority have never succeeded and never will,” he asserted.Recalling the rich legacy of the Majha region, Gargaj said it had produced countless brave Sikh warriors who laid down their lives for Sikh principles. Paying tribute to the martyrs, he urged Sikh youth to remain free from drugs and unite for the progress and dignity of Sikh institutions.SGPC chief Dhami said it was the collective responsibility of the entire Sikh Panth to take the message of the Akal Takht and the principle of Miri Piri to every household.He said the SGPC, with the cooperation of Sikh organisations, sects and the Sangat, was continuously working towards this objective.Dhami explained that according to the principle of Miri Piri, religion and governance were inseparable for a Sikh. He described it as a unique concept in world history and said no other example matched the rule established by the Sikhs while following this doctrine.He said the enthusiastic response to the Khalsa March reflected the Sikh community’s unwavering devotion to the Akal Takht. He urged Sikhs to remain connected with Gurbani and Sikh teachings to protect their distinct identity and thanked the Sangat for the warm welcome extended to the march at various places and for paying reverence to Guru Granth Sahib.
