Vadodara: She was elated when she passed a fitness test required to join the police force, but she barely had an idea that her ambition to become a cop would wreck her marriage.Counsellors from the Abhayam had to intervene and assist the woman who was abandoned by her husband in the city a couple of days ago. According to Abhayam, the woman, whose hometown is in Jamnagar, got into a relationship with a man four years ago. Around three months ago, they got married and shifted to Vadodara as he wanted to start a travel business.She told the counsellors that she applied for a police constable’s job and also passed the fitness test. When she told her husband that she will be appearing for a final exam in Rajkot, he got upset. The husband didn’t allow her to appear for the exam and soon his behaviour changed drastically. “She said that he didn’t treat her properly. Around a week ago, he came home drunk and beat her up,” a counsellor said.The woman got upset and left for her parents’ home. However, he called her later and offered to resolve the issues following which she returned to the city on Thursday. He took her out for dinner but all of a sudden, he said that he has to attend to something important and left while assuring that he would return soon.However, he did not return. The woman called him several times, but his phone was switched off. She finally called Abhayam for help and was asked to stay in Sakhi One Stop Centre and then return to her parent’s home.
