Nagpur: Every two days, on average, a private jet has taken off from or landed at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport on an international charter flight over the past five years, according to information obtained by TOI. The “money bags” in an around Nagpur are hiring jets to take off to exotic international destinations right from Nagpur, avoiding commercial scheduled flight rush.Over the five years, the airport logged 1,098 such international movements, an average of about 220 a year, an open secret probably within the elite circle in Central India.The yearly count rose from 145 in 2021 to 284 in 2022, peaked at 319 in 2023, then eased to 195 in 2024 and 155 in 2025.May 2023 was the busiest single month, with 66 movements. Dec 2021 followed with 50, and Feb 2023 with 46. Even the quietest months, including Jan and Feb 2021 and Aug 2025, still recorded at least two international charter movements, meaning the airport saw at least some international charter activity in every single month of the five years.
