Hyderabad: Stating that the govt will not compromise on the quality of school uniforms supplied to students in govt schools and hostels, chief minister A Revanth Reddy directed officials to seek feedback from every student via WhatsApp after the uniforms are distributed. The feedback will cover the quality, size, colour and other aspects of the uniforms, and will be used to finalise specifications for the next academic year.Reviewing the supply of school uniforms with officials on Thursday, the chief minister instructed officials to ensure that uniforms are distributed to all students by Aug 15 and warned of strict action against those who fail to meet the deadline.Revanth also directed SERP CEO Divya to coordinate with district collectors to speed up the stitching work being carried out by women self-help groups. Referring to alleged irregularities in the distribution of uniforms during the previous BRS govt’s tenure, the chief minister said the present govt was overhauling the system to ensure the supply of high-quality uniforms. Officials should remember that the initiative is aimed at the welfare of children from poor families, he said, directing them to prepare an action plan to ensure that students receive their uniforms by June 2 next year.Meanwhile, the CM held a separate review meeting on drinking water preparedness in view of the possible impact of El Niño on the state. He asked officials to prepare a comprehensive master plan for drinking water supply within CURE limits.“The supply plans should be prepared keeping the next 50 years in mind, and Greater Hyderabad should have multiple water sources. If one source fails, there should be an alternative,” Revanth said.He also pointed out that some areas in Greater Hyderabad receive water only once every three to four days and said the govt should ensure they receive water on alternate days, on par with other localities.
