Ahmedabad: A Class X student allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the terrace of his school in the Chiloda area of Gandhinagar on Thursday afternoon.Inspector S J Chauhan of Chiloda police said Vivek Thakor, 15, was studying at Om Landmark, a CBSE-affiliated school in Mota Chiloda. He appeared for a Sociology exam before allegedly jumping from the terrace of the school’s five-storey building. Police suspect he was under pressure to improve his academic performance.“We learnt from fellow students that Thakor had twice earlier attempted to take the extreme step by going to the terrace. On both occasions, his friends persuaded him not to do so. However, as family members allegedly continued to pressure him for better marks, he went to the terrace through a fire-exit area on Thursday afternoon and jumped,” Chauhan said.Chauhan said the boy’s parents expressed suspicion about the death, claiming their son was not under any pressure and might have been killed. However, preliminary statements of classmates and school staff have not indicated any foul play. Police are yet to record statements from his parents and other family members.Another police officer from Chiloda said some statements suggested that Thakor had an argument with a classmate, but no other evidence or statements have supported that claim.Chauhan said police will probe all angles in the case. For now, an accidental death case has been registered.
