Hazaribag: Traffic remained severely disrupted for the second consecutive day on the Grand Trunk Road, NH-19, in Barhi subdivision, as vehicles crawled for hours between Rasoiya Dhamna Mor and Panchmadhav.Long queues of trucks, buses, school vehicles, ambulances, two-wheelers and cars stretched for kilometres, affecting commuters, schoolchildren, patients, traders and transporters. The congestion spilled to Barhi Chowk and four approach roads.Residents blamed NHAI and the executing agency for the recurring chaos, alleging that road widening and underpass construction under the six-laning project have been moving sluggishly. Incomplete stretches, large potholes and uneven surfaces have turned the corridor into a bottleneck.Continuous rainfall over the past few days worsened conditions, filling potholes with water and making it difficult for motorists to assess depth. Vehicles slowed sharply on damaged stretches, while heavy vehicles stuck at several points added to the gridlock.Police personnel remained deployed throughout the day to regulate traffic and clear stranded vehicles, but muddy sections, broken roads and ongoing construction hampered efforts.Barhi sub-divisional officer Johan Tudu said the congestion was due to NHAI’s ongoing widening and underpass work. “Construction activity has created potholes at several locations, causing inconvenience to motorists. We have spoken to NHAI officials and potholes are being filled. Continuous rainfall has also contributed to the poor road condition and traffic congestion. We are trying to ensure normality,” he said.Residents and traders demanded repairs, faster construction and better drainage, warning of public agitation if the situation continues.
