Guwahati: Rescue teams on Monday recovered two more bodies from the landslide site in Nagaland’s Mon district, as search operations entered a second day and authorities continued efforts to trace others feared trapped under debris.Four bodies were recovered on Sunday. Officials earlier said the toll could rise to at least eight, with at least four more people believed to be buried under rubble.The Mon deputy commissioner on Sunday confirmed that eight people died in the landslide that struck Mon town. It was not immediately confirmed whether the two bodies recovered on Monday were among those previously reported missing or were other residents caught in the disaster. “Today another two bodies have been recovered,” said Mon DC Wennyei Konyak on Monday, without divulging many details.The landslide occurred on Sunday morning after incessant rainfall triggered the collapse of a portion of a hill at the Mon district headquarters, bringing down about 10 to 15 houses built along its slope. Around 12 others were injured.Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio visited the landslide-hit Defence Colony in Walo Ward of Mon town on Monday to assess the situation.“Visited Mon to assess conditions on the ground. Met with community leaders & those leading relief efforts. Reviewed ongoing response & restoration work. Also conducted an aerial survey of Tizit & Tuli.
