Ahmedabad: The Gujarat education department has revised its order bifurcating district education officer offices in six districts after its earlier decision drew criticism for ignoring municipal corporation limits and creating jurisdictional confusion. The department had issued the first resolution on Nov 17, 2025. In Ahmedabad, it placed several AMC-limit areas, including Ghatlodia and Thaltej, under the rural DEO. Some city schools were also mapped under the Gandhinagar DEO and the Ahmedabad district primary education officer (DPEO), complicating school administration. After the errors came to light, the department formed a committee to review the bifurcation. Based on its report and after appointing new DEO officials, the govt has issued a corrected resolution.Under the revised order, the Ahmedabad city DEO office has been split into east and west zones, with the Sabarmati as the dividing line. Schools within Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation limits will now fall under either Ahmedabad East or Ahmedabad West DEO, while schools outside city limits will remain with the rural DEO.The department has made similar corrections in other districts. The number of schools covered under the bifurcated offices has risen from 7,272 to 7,856. Officials said the revised order will make jurisdiction clearer and help DEO offices handle school administration better.
