Kolkata: Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur, will resume classes for standards 5-12 from July 24. The notice, which was issued on Monday and signed by headmaster Swami Ishteshananda and secretary Swami Shastrajnananda, stated, “Students are required to return to the Vidyalaya and re-join their respective Bhavans by 5 pm on July 23. Regular classes for students will resume on Friday, July 24.”The school previously declared a closure starting July 5 following the death of Diptangshu Mahato, a class 12 student who passed away after consuming scalding-hot tea. The decision to close the institution came after agitations by a section of parents and students. Many raised concerns over alleged negligence and a failure to take immediate, necessary steps after the incident occurred. During the agitation, a section of parents and students demanded the resignation of the current headmaster, Swami Ishteshananda. However, school authorities decided to retain his position. A former teacher of the school commented, “The incident was highly unfortunate, but it was an accident that we must accept. The school has consistently achieved excellent results under the leadership of the present headmaster, and he has no direct involvement in this incident, as far as I know. Therefore, there was no logic in removing him from his position.” A large section of parents was eagerly waiting for classes to resume. A section of the agitators who protested the day after the incident expressed their disappointment. One former student remarked, “We knew it was an uphill battle, and we anticipated the outcome. However, we urge the Mission authority to keep a close watch so that such an incident never repeats itself.”
