Chandrapur: A sub-adult tiger linked to fatal attack on a villager last month died during a second tranquilisation operation in the Palsagaon forest range of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) buffer on Tuesday, forest department officials said. The tiger, identified as T-202F S2, had fatally attacked a resident, Shri Shidame, in Chorgaon on June 28. It was captured by the reserve’s Rapid Response Team on July 4 and, following the standard wildlife management protocol, released into the core area of the reserve. However, officials said the animal failed to adapt after its release. It reportedly did not make any recorded kills of wild prey and soon moved back into the human-dominated Palsagaon range, prompting concerns over the safety of local residents. Forest teams had been tracking its movements continuously for the past three days. With the tiger repeatedly returning to inhabited areas, authorities decided to recapture it using bait. During the tranquilisation procedure, carried out between 3.45 pm and 4 pm on Tuesday, the animal died.Inside sources informed that after the tiger was successfully darted, it walked around 150 meter into the forest and fell unconscious in a small stream. Although the rescue team is not allowed to approach the darted tiger for 20 minutes, the rescue workers rushed to the tiger within 10 minutes after hearing the splashing sound and reteived it from the water. The was given revival medicine, emergency recovery drug and even CPR, but the team failed to revive the tiger which had died of drowning.
