Kanpur: A dispute over selling family land to repay the instalments of a motorcycle allegedly ended in murder after a man bludgeoned his 68-year-old father to death in Lohiya Nagar ward of Mohammadabad in Farrukhabad late Sunday.The victim, who was sleeping on a cot outside his house, was allegedly attacked with a chair and a brick by his 45-year-old son, who fled after the crime.Police said the accused had purchased a motorcycle on instalments earlier that day and had been pressuring his father to sell a portion of the family’s land to arrange the repayment. When the father refused, the argument allegedly escalated into the fatal attack.The deceased, Ramdas, had two sons. After partitioning the house, both families lived separately. His elder son, Lalit, had died, while Lalit’s wife, Guddi Devi, had gone for her daughter-in-law’s delivery.The younger son, Shyam Kumar, lived with his wife and children. He worked as a farmer. On July 7, he had married off his elder daughter, Kajal.His wife told police that Shyam had purchased a motorcycle on instalments on Sunday but did not have money to pay the instalments. She said Kajal had visited her parental home the same day, and Shyam asked her to hand over her jewellery so he could pawn it to arrange the money. Kajal refused and returned to her in-laws’ home.ASP Girish Kumar Singh said they have formed teams to arrest the accused. A case is being registered on the basis of the complaint received.
