Ahmedabad: An SRP constable was arrested by Ahmedabad railway police on Sunday evening after he was allegedly found drunk and causing a disturbance at Himatnagar railway station. According to an FIR lodged by a railway police constable, the incident occurred around 6pm during routine patrolling on Platform No. 1.Police noticed a man staggering near a stall, speaking incoherently and allegedly arguing with a woman accompanying him. Two bystanders were trying to calm him down when the patrolling team intervened.The man was taken to the Himatnagar railway outpost for verification in the presence of witnesses. During questioning, he identified himself as a constable posted with SRP Group 16 in Bhachau, Kutch.Police said the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The panchnama noted that his eyes were bloodshot, his breath smelled strongly of alcohol, and he was unable to walk in a straight line without losing balance.During the inquiry, police asked him to produce a permit for consuming liquor, as required under the Gujarat Prohibition Act. He allegedly told officers that he did not possess one. A search did not yield any objectionable articles.Based on the findings, Ahmedabad railway police registered a case against the constable under Gujarat Prohibition Act .
