Patna: Mokama MLA Anant Singh and Bhojpuri singer Gunjan Singh were granted bail by a Gopalganj court on Monday in connection with an Arms Act case registered at Mirganj police station on April 4.The case stems from a “janeu” ceremony held on April 2 at the Semrao village residence of Guddu Rai, a friend of the MLA. Anant had attended the event along with hundreds of supporters, while Gunjan performed at the function.Police action followed after videos from the ceremony went viral on social media, allegedly showing people brandishing licensed and prohibited weapons and performing obscene dances. Acting on the directions of SP Vinay Tiwari, Hathua sub-divisional police officer launched an inquiry and identified several people seen in the footage.Anant and Gunjan surrendered before the court earlier in the day and were granted bail after a hearing on their petitions. Security was tightened around the court premises amid the presence of a large number of supporters.Outside the court, Anant cut a cake with supporters and alleged that he was being targeted as part of a “political conspiracy”.Police had registered an FIR against nine named and several unidentified people, including organiser Guddu Rai, in connection with the incident.
