Ahmedabad: A 16-year-old girl died by suicide after allegedly hanging herself at her residence in Meghaninagar on Friday morning. Based on a complaint lodged by the teenager’s grandmother, Meghaninagar police on Saturday registered an offence against the girl’s father for alleged abetment of suicide.According to the FIR, the Class XII student lived with her grandmother, father, and two younger siblings. The complaint stated that her mother had been staying at her parental home in Amraiwadi for the past month following frequent disputes with her husband.The complainant, who works as a housekeeping staff member at a govt building in Girdharnagar, alleged that her son often quarrelled with family members and assaulted them over trivial matters. She claimed his behaviour had repeatedly disturbed the household and eventually forced his wife to leave the family home.On Friday morning, while the family was at home, the girl was engaged in household chores. The complainant alleged that her father questioned her presence in the house and told her to die and stay out of his sight before leaving in his autorickshaw.The grandmother later left for work. At around 9am, she received a call from a relative living nearby, informing her that the teenager had allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan using a dupatta.She immediately returned home, where a 108 ambulance had already reached. Doctors examined the girl and declared her dead.In her complaint, the grandmother alleged that the teenager took the extreme step as she was unable to bear the harassment by her father any longer. She accused him of abetting suicide through his conduct and sought legal action against him.Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abetment of suicide and launched an investigation.The body was sent for postmortem examination, and investigators are examining evidence to ascertain the circumstances that led to the girl’s death.
