Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, in collaboration with the Kanpur District Health Department, recently hosted a health system consultative meeting to address growing challenges facing healthcare facilities in the district.The meeting was led by Prof. Sukumar Vellakkal of the Department of Economic Sciences as part of the Urban Primary Health Care (UPHC) Learning Sites Programme.Participants at the session agreed that rapid urbanisation, changing disease patterns, increasing population mobility and growing healthcare needs are placing unprecedented demands on urban primary healthcare systems.They concluded that strengthening these systems will require not only greater investment in infrastructure and human resources but also evidence-informed decision-making, innovation and continuous learning.Senior district health officials, programme managers, medical officers, frontline health workers, researchers and representatives from the Uttar Pradesh Technical Support Unit (UP-TSU) attended the session.
