Prayagraj: In a major infrastructure push, projects worth Rs 9,823 crore have been proposed for Prayagraj, including the construction of 883 new roads, 19 major bridges, five helipads and several flyovers, besides widening existing roads to improve connectivity across urban and rural areas. The Public Works Department (PWD) has finalised the comprehensive development blueprint and is awaiting state government approval.Officials said that once the proposal is cleared, work on the projects could begin within 10 days, paving the way for one of the district’s biggest infrastructure expansion programmes in recent years.According to the proposal jointly prepared by the PWD and the Uttar Pradesh Bridge Corporation (Setu Nigam), 1,180 development works have been identified.The plan includes the construction of 883 new roads covering 1,365 km at an estimated cost of over Rs 1,066 crore during the current financial year.In addition, 30 existing roads spanning more than 387 km have been proposed for widening and strengthening at an estimated cost of Rs 1,329 crore. The objective is to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety and provide better connectivity to expanding residential and rural areas.The proposal also includes the construction of five helipads across different tehsils of the district at an estimated cost of Rs 1.96 crore to strengthen emergency response, disaster management and administrative air connectivity.Bridge infrastructure forms another major component of the proposal. It envisages the construction of 109 small culverts at an estimated cost of Rs 158 crore, besides 19 major bridges with a proposed investment of more than Rs 4,100 crore.
