Calangute: Calangute police arrested 18 persons after busting an illegal online cricket betting racket operating from a hotel at Khobravaddo on the Baga road late on Monday night. Police also seized a large number of mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices allegedly used in the racket.Police said they received a tip-off about the illegal betting operation, following which a team led by Calangute PI Laxi Amonkar, along with SP Vishwesh Karpe and other officers, conducted a raid and caught 18 persons allegedly operating the online betting racket.Police said further investigation is underway to trace links with other betting rackets. The accused were produced before the JMFC, Mapusa, on Tuesday and remanded to six days’ police custody.
