Mapusa: Anjuna police busted an illegal fake call centre operating in the coastal belt and arrested 15 people during a raid.During the search, officers seized a range of electronic equipment allegedly used in the fraudulent set-up, including laptops, cellphones, chargers, and network devices.The operation was carried out under the supervision of PI Krishna Sinari and sub-divisional police officer Vishwesh Karpe.Karpe said the scam specifically targeted citizens in the United States, with a focus on vulnerable elderly individuals enrolled in a federal medical insurance programme.Preliminary investigations indicate that the tech-enabled set-up was being used by a syndicate to deceive victims under false pretences and carry out financial fraud.Police are currently interrogating the 15 arrested persons to identify the masterminds, trace financial transactions, and establish how long the illegal call centre had been functioning in the area. Further investigation is under way.
