Ranchi: The Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) will verify documents of 148 students admitted to its MBBS course in 2025 through the state quota.Rims PRO Dr Shishir Kumar told TOI that documents, especially caste and residential certificates, would be sent to their districts for verification.“The move is taken following cancellation of admission of a first-year MBBS student on Monday over submitting a forged Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificate during his admission in Sept last year,” the PRO said.The institute started verification after a complaint questioned Ashish Kumar’s documents. It wrote to the Sahibganj deputy commissioner for verification.“Following the district administration’s confirmation that the caste certificate submitted during the admission process was fake, his admission has been cancelled,” the PRO added.The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on June 24 conducted searches and document scrutiny at Rims after complaints of irregularities in MBBS admissions and tender allotment.In Dec last year, Rims cancelled the admission of first-year MBBS student Kajal Kumari after her caste certificate was found forged. Similar cases surfaced in state medical colleges last year. At Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad, MBBS aspirant Sucharita Datta from Godda lost her admission on November 13, 2025, after her ST certificate was declared fake; an FIR was lodged at Saraidhela police station.Medinirai Medical College Hospital, Daltonganj, cancelled first-year student Anshu Raj’s admission on Dec 20, 2025, after his caste and residential certificates were found fabricated.
