Varanasi: The Rohaniya police and SOG joint team solved a murder case and arrested five accused at two different places on Sunday and Monday.Three accused identified as Ayush Patel alias Bhola ,21, Manish Singh ,22, and Aman Seth ,22, all residents of Mirzapur district, were arrested near Aryan School Akhri in Rohaniya police station area on Sunday night. They were booked under sections 103(1)/3(5) BNS. Two others identified as Sushil Patel alias Golu ,20, and Giyanshu Patel alias Babu ,19, also residents of Mirzapur district, were arrested from MP Memorial School Karsada on Monday. They were booked under sections 109(1) BNS and 9/25/27 Arms Act.According to reports, on Jun 08, Virendra Kumar, resident of Awaleshpur, gave an application regarding the murder of his brother Jitendra Kumar by unknown persons. A case was registered under section 103(1), 3(5) BNS, and investigation was being conducted by SI Dharmendra Kumar. The police said that after the case was registered, Rohaniya police team was constituted. In solving the murder, an attempt was made to obtain information about the unknown accused with the help of CCTV footage and the surveillance cell/cyber cell. It was learnt that the accused had come from Mirzapur district to Saurabh Bihar Colony via the pontoon bridge built over the Ganga near Tikri in Lanka police station area, where the accused used a car.When the team gathered information about the vehicles used in the incident, it was learnt that the accused used to cheat shopkeepers by posing as Paytm employees. About six months earlier, Giyanshu went to Jitendra’s shop, where, in the name of Paytm KYC, he checked his mobile and came to know that there was about Rs 26 lakh in his account. He informed his companions and made a plan to obtain the Jitendra’s mobile. On the day of the incident, Giyanshu and Sushil conducted reconnaissance around Jitendra’s shop on a bike, and Aman, Ayush and Manish were accompanying for support in a car. On the night of Jun 8, when Jitendra was going to his home after closing his shop, Sushil and Giyanshu chased him on their bike and shot him. But Jitendra, even after being shot, went home on his motorcycle, due to which his mobile could not be obtained by the accused, who fled from the spot. The accused had been committing cyber fraud with shopkeepers in Varanasi as well as Lucknow, Kanpur and Chandauli by posing as Paytm employees. In the course of which case crime no. 136/2026 section 66D IT Act was registered at police station Shivpur. Several complaints are also registered against the accused on the Samanvay portal. The police seized Rs 1,78,000 cash, 10 Paytm payment machines, 18 Android mobile phones, two keypad mobile phones, 29 debit cards of various companies, one Wi-Fi dongle, two bank passbooks, one PAN card, three cheque books, 116 QR codes of PhonePe and Paytm, 15 plastic QR codes, one laptop, nine SIMs, one country-made pistol of 315 bore along with one empty cartridge of 315 bore, three live cartridges of 315 bore, and one pistol of 7.65 bore.The commissioner of police commissionerate Varanasi announced a reward of Rs one lakh to the police team that solved the case.
