Patna: Siwan Police on Monday cracked the Durga temple theft case, arresting a man and a woman and recovering two gold necklaces worth around Rs 6 lakh stolen from the idol.The theft took place on Sunday evening at the Durga Temple near the court on Mahadeva Road.Siwan SP Puran Kumar Jha said a woman entered the temple posing as a devotee. She performed prayers like a regular worshipper and then, finding an opportunity, removed both gold necklaces from the idol of Maa Durga and fled. The entire act was captured on the temple’s CCTV cameras.“On receiving information, a special team was formed immediately under Town SHO Avinash Kumar,” SP Jha said.The team acted swiftly, using technical and human intelligence based on CCTV footage, he added.Police arrested Vikas Kumar, a resident of Mufassil police station area, and Maya Kumari (name changed), a resident of Town police station area. Both gold necklaces were recovered.
