Salem: Two college students were crushed to death under a container truck in a freak road accident near Veeraganur in Salem district late on Sunday night.The deceased have been identified as Chinnadurai, 17, of Veeraganur, a first-year student at a private college; and his relative Tamilselvan, 20, of Siruvachur, a hotel management student at a private college in Thalaivasal.Police said the accident took place on the Thalaivasal–Veeraganur highway when they attempted to overtake a container truck which was heading from Trichy towards Andhra Pradesh. “Their two-wheeler got caught under the truck’s rear wheel and both were crushed to death on the spot,” said a police officer from Veeraganur station. He added that the truck driver fled immediately after the accident.Attur DSP Sathyaraj and Veeraganur inspector Matheswaran visited the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to the Attur Government Hospital for postmortem.Attur police have registered a case and initiated an inquiry.
