Chatra: Police have arrested four members of a family in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old man at Selwar village under Telhet panchayat in Hunterganj block on Sunday morning.The victim, Devcharan Yadav, was found dead on his bed with strangulation marks on his neck.Devcharan’s wife, Ranju Devi, told police that her husband had an argument with his brother, Kamdev Yadav, over a property dispute around 10pm on Saturday. Around 4am on Sunday, she left for a nearby forest to collect mahua fruits.When she returned, Ranju alleged she saw Kamdev and Bindu Devi, the wife of Devcharan’s eldest brother, coming out of her husband’s room. She also claimed that Kamdev’s children, Vikas Kumar (20) and Priyanka Kumari (18), were standing outside. On entering the room, she found Devcharan dead.Ranju further alleged that Devcharan had long objected to an alleged illicit relationship between Kamdev and Bindu. Police said the allegation has not been verified and that all possible angles are being investigated.Devcharan, a labourer in Haryana, had returned home about a month ago. He is survived by his wife and two young sons.Hunterganj OC Prabhat Kumar said Kamdev, Bindu, Vikas and Priyanka have been arrested and are being questioned. A forensic team from Ranchi has been called to collect scientific evidence. “Further investigation is underway,” Kumar said.
