Bokaro: A man accused of smuggling marijuana to multiple states through speed post and courier services was arrested by the Hyderabad narcotics wing from Giridih district on Saturday, police said. The accused, identified as Satyam Mishra, 25, of Tambagudiyo village, was apprehended near Dumri.Officers said when Mishra stopped near Bermo More to replace a tyre on his car, the narcotics team, dressed in plainclothes, arrived on two scooters before being joined by an SUV, quickly surrounded him and took him into custody. The operation briefly triggered panic after locals felt he was being abducted and alerted Dumri police. As the Hyderabad team had not informed local authorities, Giridih police launched a search. The vehicle was intercepted by Topchanchi police in Dhanbad following instructions from Dumri SDPO Abid Khan, after which officers confirmed it was an anti-narcotics operation.Preliminary investigation suggests Mishra allegedly packed marijuana in boxes labelled as medicines and dispatched them through post offices and courier services to Telangana and other states.DSP Abid Khan said, “The accused was later brought to Nimiaghat police station, where Giridih police informed the Hyderabad team that the accused could be taken only after obtaining a transit remand. Further investigation is under way.”
