Lucknow: Two faculty members of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) have secured a research grant of nearly Rs 75 lakh from the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) to study arsenic and fluoride contamination in the Ganga-Gomti Doab region of Uttar Pradesh.The three-year project will be led by Prof Narendra Kumar of the department of Environmental Science and Monica of the department of Biotechnology.“The research aims to scientifically map the occurrence and distribution of arsenic and fluoride in groundwater, examine their environmental behaviour, identify contamination sources, and develop sustainable mitigation strategies,” said Prof Narendra.Researchers said the findings would help improve drinking water safety and support evidence-based policymaking.University officials said the project is expected to generate valuable scientific data for govt agencies, policymakers and local communities working towards ensuring safe drinking water and environmental sustainability.
