Kanpur: A checking conducted in the city revealed that 14 coaching centres in Kakadev were operating without proper registration.Crackdown on the institutes operating without complying with the mandatory safety arrangements is being conducted in the city following the tragic fire incident in Aliganj, Lucknow, which claimed 15 lives.In an inspection conducted by the higher education department in Kanpur, 14 coaching centres were found operating without proper registration and a team was dispatched to issue notices to them.Inspection revealed that only 35 coaching centres possess valid registrations, while the registration of many others was not renewed.The higher education officials emphasised that any coaching operator teaching even a minimum of 10 students is required to register their coaching. Registration can be completed at the office of the regional higher education officer with a fee of Rs 250, along with a fire safety and KDA NOC. This fee increases if the number of students exceeds 25.Regional higher education officer, Dr Rajesh, initiated the campaign by issuing notices to the 14 unregistered coaching centres in Kakadev Mandi.A campaign against the unregistered institutes, led by the chief fire officer, Deepak Sharma, was conducted under the directives of the police commissioner and the additional police commissioner (law and order) on Wednesday.As part of the campaign, 22 coaching institutes in different fire station areas were inspected. Fire officers present at the scene instructed the respective operators to enhance their fire safety arrangements to meet the required standards.The fire department stated that, in accordance with the Fire Prevention and Emergency Services Act-2022 and the Rules-2024, separate notices will be issued to the relevant institutes. Should the identified deficiencies not be rectified within the specified time frame, appropriate action will be taken as per the regulations.Chief fire officer Deepak Sharma said that the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) will be informed regarding the buildings found with structural irregularities. The administration says that in view of public interest and the safety of students, strict action will be ensured against those violating the rules.
