.Jaipur: A 28-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death with stones and sticks by a group of youths in Jaipur’s Sanganer Sadar area late Tuesday night following an argument over drinking outside his family’s shop.The deceased was identified as Sanju Sharma (28), a resident of Shiksha Sagar Colony in Govindpura. Sharma was engaged in the water tanker supply business, while his brother operated a grocery shop near their residence.Police said five suspects have been detained in connection with the incident.According to police, a wedding function was underway in a nearby field on Tuesday night. Around 11 pm, five to six youths who had come to attend the function allegedly got into an argument with members of Sharma’s family over drinking in the area.Police said the group initially left the spot but returned later with several associates. Sharma’s family alleged that the youths began pelting stones at their house and damaged lights and CCTV cameras installed in the colony.When Sharma stepped out to reason with them, the argument escalated. Investigators said the assailants allegedly surrounded him after finding him alone and attacked him with stones and sticks. Police said Sharma suffered severe head injuries after being hit with a stone and was repeatedly assaulted, leaving him critically injured.The attackers fled after Sharma collapsed on the road in a pool of blood.Family members rushed him to SMS Hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment around 5.30 am Wednesday.The family also alleged that when they tried to rescue Sharma, the attackers assaulted them as well. Four family members sustained injuries and were provided medical treatment.Additional DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said police detained five suspects and launched an investigation. Police are examining CCTV footage and recording statements of witnesses.
