PUNE: An Instagram story posted by Siya Goyal a day after the death of her fiancé, Ketan Agrawal, has gone viral even as investigators were closing in on what they now allege was a pre-planned murder at Lohagad Fort.Goyal shared the post on June 19, her birthday, less than 24 hours after Agarwal’s fatal fall from the fort.At the time, police had registered an accidental death report, saying Agrawal fell nearly 400 feet into a gorge while clicking photographs amid strong winds during a trek with his fiancée and her friends. The Instagram story, which has since been widely circulated, read: “You left me on my birthday… u left when we were so close to getting married. I still can’t understand why you did this to me. I had dreams, questions I’ll never get answers to. Why did you leave me when I loved you so much? Rest in peace.”It also featured a Hindi line: “Mere dil ko pata hai ki tu yahi hai. Wapas aaja.” (My heart knows that you are here. Come back. )Police sources now say the post is being viewed as part of an effort to reinforce the accident narrative and deflect suspicion. “At that stage, no one suspected foul play. The post generated sympathy and helped project the death as a tragic mishap,” a senior official said.Agrawal, 26, a resident of Gahunje near Pune and a director in his family’s real estate firm, had accompanied Goyal and two of her close friends to the fort to celebrate her upcoming birthday. He was an experienced trekker, an aspect that later triggered doubts in the minds of his family members, who questioned how he could have slipped so easily.Acting on the family’s concerns, Pune Rural Police reopened the probe. Investigators examined witness accounts, technical evidence and confidential inputs, which, they say, contradicted the accident theory. The inquiry revealed that Goyal had been in contact with a friend, Chetan Chaudhary, for about a year.“During the course of investigation, it came to light that the two conspired to eliminate Agrawal. At Lohagad Fort, he was allegedly pushed, causing him to fall to his death,” Pune Rural Police Sandeep Singh SP Gill said. Both Goyal and Chaudhary have been arrested by Lonavala Rural Police, and a murder case has been registered. The investigation is now moving further, continuing to establish the motive and reconstruct the exact sequence of events.
