Mysuru: Booze lovers in the city have been cautioned to exercise care while consuming snacks served at bars.During a raid on several bars on Monday, officials of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) found unbranded snack items being served without mandatory labels, including details of manufacture and expiry dates.Officials also seized khara, batani, and other snack items from roadside vendors on suspicion that they contained banned artificial food colours. Samples have been collected for laboratory analysis, and further action will be taken based on the results, officials said.The drive was carried out by a team led by Dr SL Ravindra, designated officer of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Inspections were conducted in Dattagalli, Kuvempunagar, Saraswathipuram, Urs Road, Kothwal Ramaiah Street, and nearby areas. “In a few bars, customers were served misbranded snacks without basic mandatory details on the packets,” officials said.A total of 15 food establishments were inspected, including nine street food outlets. Notices were issued to four roadside vendors and five bars and restaurants for violations. Eight food samples were collected, including four for microbiological analysis and three for chemical analysis.“We also seized highly coloured khara mixture, green peas, and other snack items from two locations. A total of 43.5kg of suspected food items worth Rs 4,160 was confiscated,” Dr Ravindra said.Meanwhile, outside the Mysuru city limits health department team led by Dr Kantharaju AN, DO, food safety & drug administration, Mysuru district carried out inspection drive. The team inspected 23 firms and issued notices to five firms for non compliance.
