Madikeri: An email threat to blow up Madikeri’s district court complex triggered anxiety on Tuesday, but later a police search confirmed it was a hoax.At around 8.10am, an email was sent to the official Gmail account of the principal district and sessions judge from a sender identified as T Sahana. The message warned that the court would be blown up using “cyanide bombs” at 2pm and claimed that the public had been evacuated, adding that two ISIS suicide bombers might also arrive. After the threat came to notice of officials, court authorities informed the police. Officers rushed to the premises and carried out a detailed inspection with the helpf of a dog squad and a bomb disposal squad. The teams checked the court complex thoroughly, but found no suspicious objects, explosives or other hazardous material, confirming there was no immediate danger.Because of the threat, judges, lawyers and members of the public remained outside the court complex until about 10.45 am. Once police declared the premises was safe, court proceedings resumed as usual. The 1st additional district and sessions Judge Mumtaz said precautionary measures were necessary since the message could not be ignored.A case has been registered at Madikeri City police station, and an investigation is underway to trace the source. A similar fake email threat was reported on Feb 16.
