COIMBATORE: A 19-year-old teenager was arrested by the Kattoor police in the city on Sunday on charges of assaulting and robbing a youth whom he had befriended on a gay dating app.The arrested has been identified as V Soundar, 19, of Ramasamy Muthaliyar Street near Ganapathi in the city. According to police, the complainant, P Rohith, befriended Soundar on a dating app. Around 7pm on Saturday, Soundar called Rohith over the phone and asked him to meet him near Avarampalayam railway bridge. Rohith reached the place mentioned, where Soundar and his friend were present.The duo assaulted Rohith and snatched his two sovereigns of gold chain and an ear stud. They demanded money from him. Since he had no money with him, he transferred Rs 725 to the mobile number of Soundar. On Sunday, Rohith filed a complaint with the Kattoor police who registered a case and began investigations.After detailed investigations, police arrested Soundar and booked him under 304(2) of the BNS Act. He was remanded in judicial custody. Police launched a hunt for Soundar’s friend involved in the crime.
