Dhubri: Barpeta district administration has set a benchmark by using the prize money received as part of PM’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration to construct a water supply system at Barpeta Civil Hospital. The district administration was conferred the honour in April, 2025 for achieving a milestone in implementing various central schemes. The award comprised a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh, a trophy and a citation certificate. The administration used the money to construct a water supply system at the Barpeta Civil Hospital in Kalgachia to ensure safe drinking water at the facility.A district administration source said the project includes a 60,000-litre reservoir and a filter bed covering 400 square metres. The source said the hospital had been facing an acute shortage of drinking water for a long time. However, with this project, the hospital’s drinking water requirement will be met for the next 15 years.“This initiative stands as an excellent example of how recognition received for administrative excellence could be transferred into a sustainable public asset that directly benefits society and strengthens public service delivery,” Barpeta district commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha said.
