Kolkata: Vidyasagar Setu was kept closed for 16 hours on Sunday for the ongoing repair and rehabilitation work of the bridge, including replacement of stay and holding cables and bearings. Work is being undertaken in phases by the Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners. During work, movement of all types of vehicles are restricted along the bridge and its ramps.The Kolkata Traffic Police diverted vehicles till 9 pm to assist work. Vehicles coming along AJC Bose Road from Zeerut Island side was diverted from Turf View towards Hastings Crossing to avail St Georges Gate Road, Strand Road and Howrah Bridge and vehicles moving along KP Road from J&N island side for Vidyasagar Setu was diverted from 11 Furlong Gate towards Hastings Crossing towards Howrah Bridge. Vehicular traffic was also diverted via arterial roads as and when required.
