Coimbatore: Almost a week after a youth was found dead in the Coimbatore combined district court complex, Race Course police have altered it to a case of murder and intensified investigation. The man, yet to be identified, and estimated to be around 35 years of age, was found unconscious in a pool of blood inside the court complex on June 1. What was initially suspected to be an accidental fall is now being treated as murder, based on preliminary findings and the postmortem report.CCTV camera footage from the vicinity initially showed the man walking along Gopalapuram Street and jumping over the rear compound wall of the court complex, when chased by a dog. Based on this, police initially believed he might have tripped and suffered a fatal fall in the dark. A case of suspicious death was registered pending the autopsy report. However, the post-mortem report later indicated that the forehead injury was not consistent with a fall and was likely caused by a sharp or heavy object, prompting police to alter it to a case of murder.Investigators are now scrutinising more CCTV camera footage from inside and around the court complex and collecting evidence to identify the assailant. They are also examining whether the victim entered the court premises after being attacked outside or if he was assaulted after climbing into the court complex.
