Patna: A man posing as a Hindu monk was allegedly beaten by a crowd in Siwan after his identity was revealed, police said on Tuesday. The incident came to light after a video went viral on social media. The incident occurred in Darauli police station area two days ago.The man, identified as Rabiuddin Mian from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, had reportedly been moving from village to village seeking alms while dressed in saffron robes and using the name Ravi. Police said an Aadhaar card bearing the name Ravi was also found in his possession.According to locals, he had been collecting money in the name of prayers and religious rituals for several years. Suspicion arose when he allegedly began demanding large sums instead of customary alms. When questioned, he reportedly disclosed his real name and background.Siwan SP Puran Kumar Jha said, “The accused is in custody and has admitted his identity. The Aadhaar card found with him is being verified. A case has been registered under relevant sections and further investigation is underway.”
