Shillong: The High Court of Meghalaya on Monday (June 1), heard arguments of the state govt advocates, seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the murder of her husband Raja, and posted the matter for further hearing on June 3.“Heard Mr A. Kumar, learned AG for the State-petitioner. Hearing is not completed. List the matter for further hearing on 03.06.2026,” a single bench of judge W Diengdoh said in his order on Monday in relation to the State of Meghalaya vs Sonam Raghuvanshi@Bitti@Bittu case.On May 21, the HC had deferred hearing on the Meghalaya govt’s petition against bail granted to Sonam and posted the matter for June 1 after her counsel had sought more time to appropriately present his case.On May 20, the HC had postponed the hearing to May 21 as the counsel of the accused had sought time.Earlier on May 18, the HC did not take up the matter as the presiding judge was occupied with other cases and had deferred the hearing to May 20, which again had been postponed to May 21.On May 12, the HC had heard the criminal petition case filed by the Meghalaya govt, challenging the bail granted to Sonam by a lower court.Sonam was granted conditional bail by additional DC (judicial), Shillong, Dashalene R Kharbteng, on April 27, citing procedural lapses during her arrest, saying she was not made aware of the correct section of the BNS under which she was held. The state govt, however, maintained that she was made aware by the police of the grounds of her arrest and submitted supporting documents in the court on May 4, seeking revocation of the bail.Indore-based transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi was murdered near a waterfall at Sohra (Cherrapunji) in May 2025 by a gang of killers hired from Madhya Pradesh and UP, allegedly at the behest of his newly married wife, ostensibly, during their ‘honeymoon’ trip.
