Nisha Sasikumar and her fellow mountaineers
Sixteen-year-old mountaineer Nisha Sasikumar from Chennai has summited Mount Everest, becoming one of the youngest climbers in the world to scale the world’s highest mountain via the South Col route from Nepal.
According to a press release, Ms. Nisha reached the 8,848.86-metre summit on May 25, at the age of 16 years and 80 days, as part of an expedition organised by Elite Exped.
Ms. Nisha, who is currently descending safely, said: “This journey taught me the importance of resilience, preparation, and believing in yourself, even in the toughest conditions.”
Aspiring to complete the Seven Summits challenge, Ms. Nisha has already scaled continental peaks, including Elbrus, Kilimanjaro, Kosciuszko, Carstensz Pyramid, and Aconcagua. She is set to climb Denali in June and Vinson Massif in November to complete the challenge.
