Faridabad: A 32-year-old lineman was electrocuted while working on a power line in Jajru village. The family members of Sonu — also a former kabaddi player who played at the district level — have alleged foul play after he died while replacing a transformer on the 11 kV power line on Monday.“Our son was deliberately targeted and was harassed for some time,” the family has alleged. Sector 58 SHO Vinod said that a case was registered based on a complaint lodged by them. The FIR was registered against four people — including the foreman, junior engineer, SDO and executive engineer of the power department — under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 3(5) (act done in furtherance of the common intention).Sonu, a resident of Janoli village in Palwal, was working with the electricity department under the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam scheme for around six years. He was currently posted in the electricity board division in Sector 58.Police said Sonu is survived by his wife, an eight-year-old son and a younger daughter and his parents (with who he lived). Family members said he reported for duty around 4pm on Monday and went to the village along with a colleague to replace a transformer. They added that the team took an official permit to shut down the power supply before beginning the work. However, while Sonu was cutting the power line, “someone suddenly restored the electricity,” causing him to come in contact with the live current, leading to his death on the spot. His body was sent to the hospital for an autopsy. The family members have questioned how the power supply could be restored despite a valid permit. They also alleged that no official from the department reached the spot after the incident.
