LG Electronics India has received a show-cause notice from the GST authorities demanding ₹116.72 crore, including penalty, for alleged excess input tax credit claims for FY22, the company said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday.
The notice was issued by the Joint Commissioner of GST, Corporate Circle-2, Greater Noida, under Section 74 of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, and related provisions of the Uttar Pradesh GST Act and Integrated GST Act.
“This is to inform you that the Company has received a Show Cause Notice (SCN) dated May 26, 2026, issued by the Joint Commissioner of GST, Corporate Circle-2, Greater Noida, UP, for the financial year 2021-22,” LG Electronics India said in its exchange filing.
According to the filing, the tax department has alleged that the consumer electronics maker claimed excess input tax credit by comparing data auto-reflected on the GSTN portal under Table 8A of the GSTR-9 annual return with credits claimed in GSTR-3B monthly returns.
The demand comprises a principal tax amount of ₹58.36 crore and an equivalent penalty of ₹58.36 crore.
LG Electronics India said the matter pertains to a reconciliation issue and asserted that the input tax credit claimed by the company falls “within the ambit of GST provision”. The company added that there would be “no impact on financials, operations or other impact” arising from the notice.
The company said it will file its response to the show cause notice within one month along with supporting evidence to demonstrate that no excess input tax credit was claimed.
