Kanpur: A 19-year-old woman in a village in Bithoor died by suicide by hanging on Saturday evening after she allegedly received objectionable and threatening messages from a man, police said.Her sisters filed a complaint at the police station, accusing the man of circulating objectionable messages.The woman was a third-year BSc student and also worked at a finance company arranging credit cards, her sister stated. Her marriage was fixed, but the date was not set.The sisters alleged that a man from Dabauli harassed her for a year, regularly sending objectionable messages and threats. They said he also messaged the man she was engaged to, making objectionable remarks and asking him not to marry her.On Saturday evening at around 4 o’clock, the man allegedly sent several threatening messages to her. The sisters said she pleaded with him not to defame her, but he did not relent. They alleged she was hurt by this and ended her life by hanging.Bithoor police station in-charge Ashok Saroj stated that the matter will be investigated and action will be taken.
