In a conversation with Vishvendu Jaipuriar, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) assistant superintending archaeologist Dr Niraj Kumar Mishra said that the ancient mounds and archaeological remains spread across Mangarh, Daihar, Hathindar and Sohra villages of Chauparan block need urgent scientific excavation and protection as they may hold key evidence related to Jharkhand’s early civilisation and cultural history.Q: What has been discovered in the four villages so far?A: Sculptures, inscriptions, temple ruins, pottery, votive stupas and habitation mounds linked to Brahmanical and Buddhist traditions have been found. However, the pottery assemblages belong to much earlier cultural phases linked to the early historic period.
