PATNA: Bihar Police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly using casteist slurs and issuing death threats against Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on social media, officials said.The accused has been identified as Rajesh Rao Sardar, a resident of Marufganj in Patna, who is reportedly involved in transportation and other businesses.DSP (Cyber Cell) Abdurrahman Danish said the accused uploaded a video on Facebook on Wednesday in which he allegedly made objectionable remarks, abused the Union Minister and threatened to kill him. Following the video, police registered a case and launched an investigation against the Facebook profile named ‘Rajesh Rao Sardar’.“On 20th May 2026, during social media monitoring, a Facebook video came to light in which a person was using casteist slurs, abusing, threatening to kill, and making objectionable comments against the Union Minister. Taking this matter seriously, the Gaya Cyber Police Station registered a case number 7026, dated 20.05.2026, against Rajesh Rao Sardar with the profile name, and initiated an investigation,” he said.Danish said a special team was formed to trace and arrest the accused. He was later arrested from the Lahari Sarai police station area in Nalanda district.“Following technical investigation and prompt action by the special team, the accused, Rajesh Rao, was arrested from the Lahari Sarai police station in Nalanda district, and further action is underway. The accused has no criminal history,” he said.The DSP said the police have sought metadata and other technical details from Facebook as part of the ongoing investigation.“We have requested data from Facebook metadata and are conducting technical investigations. The accused has some transportation business and other businesses. He lives in Marufganj, Patna,” he added.Police said further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the video and whether any other people were involved in the matter.
