The Sir Jehangir Ghandy Library at XLRI – Xavier School of Management has undergone a major transformation from a traditional academic library into an AI-enabled knowledge ecosystem, integrating digital infrastructure, advanced research tools, and round-the-clock access to support management education and research.
Founded in 1949 alongside XLRI, the Sir Jehangir Ghandy Library now functions as a strategic academic resource supporting faculty research, student dissertations, institutional rankings, and accreditation initiatives. The institution said the library reflects its broader vision of developing “responsible, globally aware leaders” through inquiry, critical thinking, and continuous learning.
According to XLRI, the library remains open for over 21.5 hours daily and provides personalised research and reference support through a dedicated professional team.
The library’s collection includes over 70,000 print books, 28,000 eBooks, and 35,000 eJournals, in addition to journals, magazines, newspapers, theses, dissertations, archival collections, and faculty and alumni publications. Users also have access to more than 50 specialised electronic resources and international databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, JSTOR, ProQuest, and EBSCO.As part of its digital transformation efforts, the library has introduced automated systems powered by Liberty Library Management System, RFID-enabled circulation services, and self-service kiosks. A unified discovery platform using the Summon Discovery Service enables users to access all knowledge resources through a single interface.
To support remote and hybrid learning, the institution has also integrated platforms such as MyLOFT and mobile applications for off-campus access to resources.
The institution noted that the evolution of the Sir Jehangir Ghandy Library demonstrates how academic libraries are increasingly integrating technology, digital access, and research infrastructure to remain relevant in a knowledge-driven and AI-enabled education landscape.
