Hyderabad: Two women in their sixties, who went missing from Vikarabad in March and May respectively, were found murdered in a forest area at Moinabad on Saturday. The deceased were Mahbubi, 65, from Kokat village in Yalal mandal of Vikarabad, and Md Abeda Begum, 60, from Khasimpur in Basheerabad mandal of Vikarabad. While Mahbubi, who worked as a labourer, went missing after leaving her home on Mar 27, Abeda, who worked as a sweeper at a local anganwadi centre in Khasimpur, went missing on May 9.Mahbubi’s sister, Amina Begum, lodged a missing persons complaint with Yalal police on March 31, while Abeda’s son, Md Babu, reported her disappearance to Basheerabad police on May 9. Both complaints were registered as FIRs.During the investigation, Yalal police found that Mahbubi was in contact with a local woman, Kareema, 40. She was taken into custody and, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to committing the double murders with the help of her husband, Rehman, 33, a labourer, and their associate Nayeem, a watchman from the Moinabad area.“The investigation revealed that Kareema had borrowed about ₹70,000 from Mahbubi and ₹80,000 from Abeda about a year ago, and with compounded interest, she was asked to repay around ₹3 lakh in total. Unable to clear the amount, the accused allegedly hatched a plan to eliminate them,” said Tandur DSP N Yadaiah.Kareema sought help from Rehman and Nayeem. They first lured Mahbubi to the Tolkatta forest area on March 27 on the pretext of repaying the borrowed amount. “In the forest area, the accused consumed liquor and also offered it to Mahbubi. Subsequently, they smothered her to death by covering her nose and mouth with a cloth. After the murder, they buried the body in the same place. In the same manner, they allegedly killed Abeda on May 9, about a kilometre away in the same forest area,” the DSP said.On Saturday, the skeletal remains of Mahbubi and the decomposed body of Abeda were exhumed and, after a spot post-mortem examination, the remains were handed over to their families. The femur bone of Mahbubi was preserved for DNA analysis. Both missing cases have been converted into murder cases.
