Shillong: House-listing operations (HLO) under Phase-I of the first fully digital Census 2027 will begin in Meghalaya on May 16, following the conclusion of the state’s self-enumeration campaign on May 15.In preparation, the general administration (B) department organised a training conference of the State Level Census Coordinating Committee (SLCCC) on May 7. FR Kharkongor, principal secretary to the Govt of Meghalaya, attended along with SLCCC members including deputy commissioners, principal and district census officers, and officials from various departments to discuss the roadmap, preparedness and implementation strategies.HLO will be conducted from May 16 to June 14. Enumerators will collect information on housing conditions, assets and basic amenities through a structured questionnaire.Kharkongor said the census is a key exercise for governance and inclusive development, helping the govt assess demographic trends, population distribution, socio-economic conditions and developmental requirements across the state.Pooja Pandey, commissioner & secretary and state nodal officer for census, stressed the need for coordination and participation by officials and the public to ensure smooth conduct of census work.Biswajit Pegu, director, Census Operations, outlined the roadmap and functional structure for different phases of census activities in the state.
