Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has signaled that Israel should begin reducing and eventually ending the financial component of U.S. military aid, saying he wants the process to start now and be completed over the next decade. In his CBS interview with Major Garrett, Netanyahu said Israel currently receives $3.8 billion a year and argued that the country should “wean” itself off that remaining financial support as part of a longer-term shift toward greater strategic self-reliance. In the same interview, Netanyahu also addressed China’s role in supporting Iran, saying Beijing had provided “a certain amount of support” and particular missile-manufacturing components, though he declined to elaborate further. When asked if that disturbed him, he replied that he “didn’t like it,” but avoided going beyond that, suggesting caution in publicly confronting China even while acknowledging concern.
