His remarks came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Congress “stabbed” the DMK in its back. He was referring to the Congress extending support to actor-politician Vijay-led TVK to form a government in Tamil Nadu after walking out of the DMK-led alliance.
In a post on X, Chodankar targeted the BJP, claiming, “This is the same leadership that built its career by systematically sidelining its own mentors Advani ji and MM Joshi ji the moment they were no longer needed.”
The BJP’s “masterstrokes” include toppling democratically elected governments from Maharashtra to Karnataka and MP, he charged.
“Your ‘Chanakyaniti’ is nothing but the open auction of democracy,” he claimed.
The “BJP Washing Machine” was being used to “purify” the same leaders you (saffron party) once called corrupt, Chodankar alleged.
“In Tamil Nadu, you (referring to the BJP) face a wall of self-respect. The people see how the Governor’s office is being misused as a political tool to bypass the public mandate,” he said.”You can engineer defections and break parties, but you cannot buy the hearts of the people. Tamil Nadu values the Constitution far more than your power hunger,” the Congress leader added.
TVK leader C Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, after his party, which won 108 seats, managed to get support from the Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI (M) and IUML to gather 120 MLAs and cross the 118 majority mark in the 234-member assembly to form the government.
The event marked the first non-Dravidian party to form the government in the state, breaking the traditional domination of AIADMK and the DMK for decades.
On Saturday evening, Vijay headed to the Lok Bhavan for his fourth meeting with Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar in as many days to discuss government formation, before the latter appointed him as CM and invited him to form a ministry.
